Project
WAL (Warehouse Artist Lofts) is a mixed-use, mixed-income community for artists located in downtown Sacramento’s Historic R Street District. The community includes 116 rental apartments, ranging from studios to three-bedroom units, and ground floor commercial/retail space.
TB/Co was hired by the developer, Ali Youssefi, to curate site-specific art installations from local artists. This included soliciting proposals, choosing the artists and working with each artist to develop their concept and site-selection to optimize the collection. In the end over two dozen artists completed pieces all of which were designed specifically for the lofts.
The Warehouse Artist Lofts is currently one of the finalists for the Urban Land Institute’s Jack Kemp Award for Excellence in Affordable and Workforce Housing.
