Beacon: Sacramento is a video projection, public art experience located in Sacramento, the capital of California. The project is conceived by producer Tre Borden and curated by filmmaker and artist Jessa Ciel. Beacon is a creative response to the national divisions and international crises we face today. Sacramento, “the capital of the resistance,” is an ideal launchpad because of its political influence as well as its action-oriented community. Beacon Sacramento will run from April to July 2017 and feature local, national, and international artists.

Each week, Beacon curates work from artists around a topical theme. The canvas for the artists is the array of large, street-facing glass windows of 930 K St, a vacant former bank building in Downtown Sacramento a block from the Capitol and up the street from the brand-new Golden One Center entertainment and sports complex.The themes chosen reflect the frustration, power, and hope of a people ready to take action toward a more humane world.

Over 10 weeks, submitted artwork will be showcased on 10th & K streets using a network of projectors. Pedestrians become participants as image, text and video projections immerse the thousands of electeds, policymakers, state-workers, club-goers and Golden One Center attendees. Every week will focus on a specific call-to-action to get citizens directly involved.
